Les Gazelles – c’est magnafique

The ARCHERY SA Les Gazelles 2024 was the first time Michelle and Karen (relatively new ARCSA Board Directors) had been given the task of organising this event. Karen had only taken part in the shoot for the first time last year, and had no prior knowledge of how to run this event. It was a big learning experience.

The all-female event attracted the largest number of entrants to date and the shooting line looked quite impressive with the majority fully embracing the invitation to participate in costume.

The organisers did change a few things around from last year’s event, by making it a Double Aussie 18m shoot for all, and winners were based on handicaps to try and make it fairer for all age groups and bow types.

Trophies were presented for 1st, 2nd and 3rd places – thank you to Geoff & Michelle Foulis for donating these.

Michelle and Karen along with the Board of ARCHERY SA would like to thank the sponsors for their support in this event.

Multiple archery items were generously donated by Steven Hann of Archery Supplies, with prizes for best costume for Youth and Open, plus to the top five in each category, being drawn randomly.

The Salisbury Hotel were also very generous in giving 2 x $50 vouchers and 2 bottles of wine which went towards the raffle prizes.

Australian Independent Glass donated $50 to go towards the targets and scholarship fund.

Bailey Nelson also donated 50% discount vouchers for glasses.

Geoff & Michelle also donated various wine, chocolates, and other items to go in the raffle balloon prizes Michelle personally made.

Thank you to the Committee Members of The Farm Indoor Archery Club for helping with the target setup and Mark Evans for setting the event up in The Archer’s Diary. Mark was also available remotely during the evening to make last-minute changes for bow types and provide the results at the end of the evening.

Overall, it was a great night out and the costumes were awesome. Everyone was asked to bring a plate of food for sharing at half time and tea and coffee was provided from the start. Music played in the background throughout and it was a fun and relaxing atmosphere.

It was a great advertisement for the power of female archery!
